Choosing the Right Cannabis
What are cannabinoids?
Cannabinoids are compounds produced both by the body and the cannabis plant. Endocannabinoids are produced by the body and processed by endocannabinoid receptors. The endocannabinoid receptors can also process phytocannabinoids, which are naturally occurring cannabinoids produced in the cannabis plant.
When we smoke cannabis, our endocannabinoid receptors process these phytocannabinoids. This in turn creates psychoactive and physiological responses in the body.
What are Terpenes?
Terpenes are essential oils within plants that give them their aroma. Each strain of cannabis has a distinct terpene profile that gives it a unique scent. Terpenes act as natural guides when deciding which strains will most likely complement the consumer.
There have been studies to support the idea that terpenes can also enhance the “high” of the consumer. A plant’s unique terpene profile in combination with its unique cannabinoid profile will create a specific experience known as the “entourage effect.”
